The Charter Fair committee has solicited input from the community and have identified Kate’s Home Nursing as a Chosen Charity for 2019. This means that Kate’s will be included on our literature such as raffle tickets, posters and online presence as a charity that we will share any excess income with. We have called this the “Chosen Charity for 2019”.
Kate’s Home Nursing is a Registered Charity set up to nurse patients in their own home through the last stage of illness and to support their families. Kate King, a resident of Stow who died in 1995, became aware of the lack of nursing care available to patients wishing to die at home and challenged her nurses and doctors to do something about it.
When patients have been told that they are dying and have expressed the wish to be at home where this is possible, their GP or District Nurse can ask Kate’s Home Nursing to provide nursing for them, working with other home nursing services. Patients are generally referred through the GP surgeries in Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Northleach, Burford and Winchcombe and they also work with sister charities in looking after patients in the Moreton area.
Why does a local Charity have to do this? The NHS provides nursing care at home through the District Nursing Service, but is not resourced to provide nurses to stay with patients. Our rural locality reduces the ability of the larger national charities to help. Kate's Home Nursing fills this gap in provision with its high quality 'hospice at home' care.
Our aim is to share any money we receive in excess of what we need to put the fair on for this year and as a fund for next year with the Chosen Charity. Whilst the Charter Fair is not intended to make a profit we have a considerable amount of costs to put on the fair and these continue to increase year be year and we still do not charge for entry. Hopefully this will add significantly to the charity’s funds and ensure that we can fund the Charter Fair this and next year.
